Port of Paxi (Paxos)
Port Information, Terminals and Facilities
(Gaios, Paxi, Ionian Islands, Greece)
The main port of Paxi is situated at the very heart of the island's capital, Gaios. During the summer months, daily ferries and hydrofoils arrive at the charming harbour from the nearby island of Corfu. The port is also connected with Igoumenitsa on the Greek mainland, while there are daily hydrofoil connections between the island and Brindisi in Southern Italy.
The picturesque harbour town of Gaios provides visitors with the perfect place to relax, unwind, and watch the world go by. The large crescent shaped quayside is backed by a handsome Venetian square.
The town is home to plenty of cafés, restaurants, tavernas, and a few bars. There are also a number of hotels in the town, while those keen on shopping can visit the town's many souvenir shops.
Paxi is the smallest of the Ionian islands, measuring just 10 km / 6 miles long and 4 km / 2.5 miles wide. Tourists are attracted to the island by its beautiful beaches, small coves and peaceful ambience. The pine covered island can be explored fully in just a few days with a car or motorbike. Despite its small size the island boasts over 30 beaches.
Port of Paxi Information: Ferry Services - Gaios, Paxi, Ionian Islands, Greece
In summer months, Kerkyra Lines runs daily car ferries between Paxi and the port of Corfu via Igoumenitsa. The crossing takes approximately 3 hours, 15 minutes on a conventional ferry.
There are also passenger-only connections to Corfu onboard the hydrofoils Santa II and Santa III and the Paxi Flying Dolphin. The hydrofoils accommodate up to 150 passengers and leave the Port of Paxi every day during the summer. The crossing to Paxi takes about an hour, however, at certain times the hydrofoil will go to Paxi via Igoumenitsa on mainland Greece. This will add 30 minutes to the crossing time.
The Italian shipping company SNAV have recently introduced a speedy hydrofoil service from Brindisi direct to Paxi (via Corfu). There are daily crossings in the summer months (early July-September) with the crossing taking less than 7 hours.
All ferries have facilities for those with disabilities, though passengers should advise staff of any special needs when making their reservation
